A professional piano valuation is typically used for insurance, probate or selling purposes.
Following the assessment of the piano, we can provide a detailed written report which
includes our expert view on what the piano might achieve from the trade, the open market
and in a retail environment.
If you are considering having your piano restored or refurbished, we use the same assessment form as above.
If you have recently had your piano restored or refurbished, we always welcome any extra information such as: Bill of sale, invoices, receipts, workshop notes and other information.
Our prices are very competitive and no extra charge up to 5 miles.
"How much is my piano worth?"
We are unable to give you a true valuation of your privately owned piano by email, telephone or photos, no matter how good your description is - it must be physically inspected face-to-face and fully examined on-site. Even if your piano is tuned by AA Piano Tuners UK, many aspects of valuation are overlooked and not covered in a standard piano tuning visit - this will require a separate appointment.
We may be able to give you an estimated value of similar pianos to yours sold at auction - of similar age, based on the current market value. Most valuations are carried out by comparison to other pianos.
A valuation appointment consists of the following assessment:-
# Age and condition / serial number authenticity
# Makers name and model number/letter (e.g. Bechstein grand model B)
# Origin of piano makers (e.g. Germany)
# Length of grand piano // height of upright piano
# Condition and type of case work veneer/ finish and keyboard (e.g. Rosewood/ ivory)
--(piano checked for key top authenticity and if replaced with modern tops)
# General tone quality and 'touch' // bass - tenor - treble string timbre & dynamic range
# Internal mechanism design & makers (e.g. Under-damped / Roller action / Renner)
# Stringing formation & top bridge design (e.g. over-strung / agraffes / pressure bar)
# Inspection of the soundboard, bridges & pins, wrest plank and structural areas
# Inspection of the internal mechanism - hammers, undercarriages & dampers
# Inspection of the key bushings/ key frame washers and felts
# Condition & 'cleanliness' of the strings / wrest pins / voicing felts
# Checking the regulation and general 'playability'
# Inspection of the pedals and their mechanism parts
Related items >>
# Proof of purchase / Bill of sale / Tuning receipts / Service History card
# Piano stool / humidifier / piano heater
# Piano checked for damage, cracks, polish crazing and general repairs if needed
# Castors/ hinges / brass fixtures / screw fixings / back cloth
All the above mentioned are checked for 'cleanliness' and general wear and tear. If a piano is subject to thick dust and debris and parts becoming difficult to examine, that part of the assessment may be omitted, and a general 'unknown' box will be ticked. Please note that a valuation assessment is different to other assessments (purchase, restoration), and charged separately.
